Starting An Ecommerce Business Is Easier Than You Think

The ecommerce business industry has exploded over the past two years. Longstanding brick and mortar stores, that temporarily closed or slowed down over this period, may never open again. On the other hand, online shopping used to be done out of convenience and is now a common go-to and considered a necessity. Many brands can’t keep enough products in stock. The ecommerce business model is exploding. Many brick and mortar stores switched to an ecommerce model or ramped up their online presence. Smart move for the business owners making those choices.

Ecommerce has been growing for a while, and the ongoing worldwide health circumstances have led to an increase in ecommerce sales.

Now is an exciting time to start an ecommerce business.

Start Ecommerce Niche Research

STARTING AN ECOMMERCE BUSINESS IS A LOT EASIER THAN YOU THINK

Ecommerce is a fantastic way to make money online, but it can be hard to find the right niche.
In this section, we will cover how to do research for an ecommerce niche. We will go over what you need to know before you start researching and what questions you should ask when doing research. What do you need to know before doing ecommerce niche research? Before doing any research on an ecommerce niche, there are a few questions that you should ask yourself. First, what is the main reason that someone would be willing to buy something from your business? Then, what problems or needs will they have? Third, how can you solve these problems?

For example: What is the main reason that someone would be willing to buy something from your business?

-Improve their social status, look fashionable, etc. What are the problems or needs people have?
-Their friends might think they need a new outfit for a party and you could help them find something fashionable. What can you do to help?
-We could search for similar items on Facebook and Instagram to give you some inspiration when we make recommendations!

Choosing your niche is the most important step in opening your online business. Start this process by finding successful companies already working in this space and look for niche competitors. Build your business around this niche.

Research Ecommerce Business Models

Ecommerce is a popular way of selling products and services. Research has shown that it can be profitable, especially if the business model is profitable.

The most popular ecommerce business models are:

Affiliate marketing – where affiliates promote other people’s products or services for a commission
Drop shipping – where merchants sell products without holding them in their inventory
Marketplace – where merchants can sell their own products alongside those of other sellers on a single platform
Selling physical goods online – where merchants sell physical items like clothes, cosmetics, and electronics through an online store
Selling digital goods online – where merchants sell digital items like eBooks, music, and video games through an online store

Choose a Storefront Platform

After you have chosen your business niche and your business model, the next step in starting an ecommerce business is building a website and securing payment processing services. You can use a platform like Shopify or Squarespace to build your website and they also offer payment processing services. If you want to start an ecommerce business without a website, then you can use PayPal. It is a third-party payment processing service that allows users to receive payments on their website and sell products through PayPal’s checkout process. I wouldn’t suggest starting an ecommerce business without a website. Having customers DM, email, or Cashapp/Venmo you does not look good.

A website is the most important piece of the puzzle for your ecommerce business. It is going to be your storefront, so it needs to look good and function well. You will also need a way for people to pay for what they buy on your site. This can either be through credit card payments or with other methods like PayPal or Apple Pay.

When it comes to finding a website host for your ecommerce store, there are several options available. For example, Shopify offers a variety of plans to suit different needs. The Basic Shop plan costs $29 per month and includes unlimited bandwidth, unlimited stock, 3rd party payments & more. Shopify runs promotions that could extend their 14-day trial to a longer amount of time.

The e-commerce industry is an ever-growing field. Businesses are constantly looking for new ways to improve their margins and keep up with the rapidly changing trends of digital commerce. This has led to an increase in the number of platforms that offer e-commerce functionality, each with its own sets of features and advantages.

Other website hosting options include Wix, BigCommerce, Squarespace, WooCommerce, and Volusion. GoDaddy has also released an ecommerce option. I use and recommend Shopify for my ecommerce store.

What Are You Selling?

After setting up your site and hosting account, you will need to buy some items from wholesale suppliers in order to get your business started. The good news is that wholesale suppliers typically have open enrollment periods and will allow you to buy inventory at a discounted rate during this time. Many wholesalers require your business to be a legitimate one. As in being registered with your state, having a resellers certificate, etc. My suggestion, if you are considering a clothing boutique, is to steer clear of stocking your store with products from a popular foreign-based site. Although buying low and selling high is great in theory, it can set you up for issues overall. Those products tend to be of very low quality with non-standard sizing (i.e. a large is more like a small). Shipping costs and long turnaround times could also be a concern. If you choose to go this route, take the time to order samples. Remember, this is your brand, and you want to sell products that you can confidently stand behind.

How to Create a Winning Product Listing That Converts Visitors into Customers

A product listing is a page on the ecommerce website that displays the products for sale. It’s usually the first page visitors see when they come to the site. Or, if your website uses Collections, the product pages can be accessed via links.

Product listings are one of the most important pages on your site. If you don’t have a good product listing, it could mean that your conversion rates will suffer, and you’ll miss out on revenue opportunities.

The best way to create a winning product listing is to follow these three steps: 1) Start with your USP (unique selling point). I sell quality made in the USA 100% cotton shirts. I focus on both quality and design, bringing classic American style to a new generation of fashion. 2) Create an eye-catching image for your products. 3) Write a compelling call-to-action that tells customers what they should do next (i.e., Buy now!).

What are the Best Marketing Channels for Your Ecommerce Business?

Marketing channels are the channels through which a company communicates its products and services to customers. Marketing channels can be classified into four major categories:

-Direct Marketing
-Indirect Marketing
-Personal Selling
-Public Relations

The best marketing channels for your ecommerce business depend on what you are selling, who your target audience is and where they are located. If you are selling products that are not available in stores, then it would make sense to use online marketing channels like social media, email marketing, SEO, etc. However if you sell products that people can find in stores, then it would make sense to use offline marketing channels like TV ads, print ads, radio ads etc.

How to Compete with Big Companies on a Small Budget

The following are some small business ecommerce marketing tips that might be helpful for a small company to compete with big companies on a budget.

  1. Focus on Your Strengths: Small businesses should focus on their strengths and not try to compete in areas where they have no expertise. Small businesses have the advantage of being nimble and flexible, so they can easily pivot to new markets as needed.
  2. Invest in Marketing: Small businesses need to invest time, money, and resources into marketing if they want to make themselves known in the greater world. This includes investing in digital marketing campaigns like social media ads.
  3. Create a Sense of Urgency: It is important for small businesses to create a sense of urgency around their product. This is because people need a reason to buy, and if the product doesn’t seem like it’s in demand, customers will be less likely to buy it.
  4. Know Your Customers: Small businesses should know their customers on a personal level by looking at their social media profiles and reading what they have posted online. This shows that you are aware of your customer’s concerns and gives them an individualized touch. Creating and refining your customer avatar is an important part of the process.
  5. Show Your Personality: Try to not be overly professional in your business. Small businesses often have a lot of personality because they are typically run by “real” people. Adding some humor and expressing yourself is important to give the company an extra edge over their competition.
